1 GALLON SODA INSTRUCTIONS
Before you start, take a moment to review the carbonating choices before you begin. And remember, Soda is mostly water, so the better the water, the better your recipe (tap water can be used, but for best results use bottled spring or charcoal-filtered water).
- 1. In a 3-5 quart pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. As the water heats up, gradually stir in your Body Enhancer until it has completely dissolved. Then gently add the Flavor Crystals and stir until the crystals have fully dissolved.
- 2. At first sign of a boil, lower the heat to medium-high and allow mixture to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure everything is well combined. Then remove from heat.
- 3. Add 3-4 tablespoons of Soda mix (adjusting to your taste) and let this mixture cool to room temperature. This can take between 30-40 minutes. At this point the pot should no longer be steaming and should feel lukewarm to the touch.
- Congratulations, you’ve just made Soda Syrup! At this point, you can use it now or place it in a sealed container and store it in the fridge for later use.
Now that your syrup is prepared, to create a quick and refreshing glass of Soda, combine one part Soda syrup with three parts seltzer water. You can use store bought seltzer water or a carbonating machine, it makes no difference. Feel free to adjust the syrup to seltzer ratio to suit your taste. The syrup can be stored in the fridge for up to 6 weeks.
ALCOHOL NOTE: The method above guarantees your soda will be completely alcohol-free. However, the natural carbonation method below utilizes yeast to transform sugar into CO2, which will generate trace amounts of alcohol as a natural result of fermentation. If you adhere to the carbonation timeline, the alcohol level should stay low (around 0.5%). This kit is designed for creating non-alcoholic beverages, and trying to make an alcoholic drink could lead to bottle explosions.
This is a bottling option to naturally carbonate your Soda. For this step you’ll need (2) plastic 2 liter soda bottles and a Carbonating kit. The Carbonating kit is included with your Soda kit or can be purchased along with a Soda refill from our website. Please avoid using glass or beer bottles with this option. This step can take between 12-24 hours, and it’s important to check on the bottles regularly. The yeast, which ferments the sugars into CO2, is a living organism, and if left unattended for over 24 hours, can burst your bottles. If you can’t keep an eye on them, you can store your syrup in a sealed container in the fridge until you’re ready to bottle. Bottles can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- 1. Start by thoroughly cleaning and rinsing out your soda bottles. Make sure to remove the caps locking ring that is usually left behind. Since you'll be using the caps included with the Carbonating kit you can throw away the original caps.
- 2. Using the funnel (included), evenly divide the Soda syrup between your two bottles. Top each bottle off with water (use cool bottled spring or charcoal-filtered water for best results) to about 3 inches below the top. Then add ¼ teaspoon of Yeast to each bottle. Swirl each bottle softly to mix. You can discard the leftover yeast or seal the package and store in the fridge for future use.
- 3. Seal each bottle using the caps provided in the Carbonating kit. Push down and twist to secure, be careful not to over-tighten as this can cause an issue which allows carbonation to escape. Caps are designed to prevent over-carbonation and potential explosions.
- 4. Store bottles at room temperature (68-78°F) to allow carbonation to occur, which usually takes between 2-24 hours. About 12 hours after adding the yeast, check the bottles to see if they feel firm to the touch. Continue to monitor them every 6 hours, maintaining room temperature, until they feel like a freshly purchased bottle of soda pop. Once they are hard, move them to the refrigerator and chill for about 24 hours before enjoying. Avoid leaving the bottles at room temperature after they become hard, this can cause bottles to explode.
- 5. Although refrigeration will slow-down the yeast's production of CO2, it will not completely stop the process. To avoid over-carbonation, make sure you consume these bottles within 2 weeks after refrigeration. After 2 weeks, excess CO2 and alcohol may build up, making bottles dangerous to handle.
