1 GALLON SODA-POP INSTRUCTIONS
There are optional steps and choices to make about how you wish to carbonate your Soda-Pop. Please review these instructions before you begin.
- 1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a 3 quart pot (or larger). As water begins to heat, slowly stir in “Body Enhancer” until fully dissolved. Make sure this does not clump or stick to the bottom or side of the pot.
- 2. At first sign of boiling, reduce heat to medium-high and slowly add “Flavor Crystals.” Stir until this has completely dissolved.
- 3. Let simmer for 3-4 minutes, with some occasionally stirring.
- 4. Remove from heat. Then add 3-4 tbsp of “Soda-Pop Extract” (more or less depending on taste). Allow contents to cool for 30+ minutes until room temperature (the pot should not show any signs of steaming and liquid should feel lukewarm to the touch.
- Congratulations you just made Soda-Pop Syrup! If you decide not to use this right away store in a sealed container in the fridge.
Now that you've made your syrup there are a few choices for carbonating, bottling and enjoying your Soda-Pop.
Create an instant glass of Soda-Pop by combining 1 part syrup with 3 parts seltzer. Feel free to use store bought seltzer water, Mosa Soda Splash or a SodaStream® machine. Adjust the syrup to seltzer ratio depending your personal tastes. Syrup can be stored for 6 weeks in the fridge.
Use two 2 Liter plastic soda bottles and a “Carbonating kit” to naturally carbonate your Soda-Pop. The carbonating kit comes with each Soda-Pop kit or can be purchased from this website. AVOID using glass bottles or beer bottles. Carbonating this way will take 12-24 hours and requires frequent monitoring during that time. Yeast is a living organism that converts sugars into CO2 through fermentation. Your bottles can explode if left unattended beyond 24 hours. If you don’t have the time to monitor your bottles, you can refrigerate your syrup in a sealed container until you’re ready to bottle. Bottles can be stored for up to 2 week in the refrigerator.
ALCOHOL NOTE: Choice one avoids any trace of alcohol in your finished soda. Since yeast converts sugar into CO2, it also creates trace amounts of alcohol (the natural byproduct of fermentation). The alcohol content should remain around 0.5% as long as you carbonate following the timeline in these instructions. This kit is NOT intended to produce an alcoholic beverage. Doing so can cause your bottles to explode.
- 1. Clean and rinse each soda bottles well. Then remove the locking cap rings that may have been left behind. Discard the caps that came on the bottles and use the specialty caps included with the carbonating kit (included with your soda making kit).
- 2. Using the funnel (included), divide the syrup evenly between the two bottles. Top off each bottle with cool spring or filtered water to about 3 inches below the top. Then gently swirl until well mixed.
- 3. Add ¼ Teaspoon of Yeast into each bottle. There will be plenty of leftover yeast you can keep or discard.
- 4. Seal each bottle use the Bottle Caps from the carbonating kit. Push down and twist, but do not over tighten. Caps are specially designed to ensure bottles do not over carbonate and/or explode.
- 5. Now store each sealed bottles at room temperature (64-78°F) and allow them to carbonate (this process should take between 12-24 hours). Around 12 hours later, check each bottle to see if they have begun to harden. Continue checking each bottle every 4-6 hours to monitor their progress. Maintain them at room temperature until they are hard like a new bottle of soda-pop you find at the store. Once bottles have hardened, place them immediately in the refrigerator and let sit for 24 hours. Now enjoy! (Note: Do not store bottles at room temperature or they can explode).
- 6. The refrigerator will slow down the carbonation process, but will not completely stop the yeast from creating additional CO2 in the bottles.
Note: To prevent over-carbonation, drink your bottled soda within 1-2 week after placing bottles in the refrigerator. Excess CO2 and alcohol will continue to develop beyond this point, increasing the chance of these bottles to explode.
