Does a great job of letting you know the temperature of the fermenter. I placed mine horizontally just above the leg ring, so I can see the temperature of the wort after adding it to the gallon of chilled water already in the conical. Once I know that temperature, I know if I need to top off with room temperature water or chilled water or both. Can't do this if you place it vertically. Colors in the photos are much brighter/bolder than the actual colors observed on two gauges
